This book amply fulfils the authors’ intent of defining a practical approach to every aspect of drug resistant tuberculosis (TB) especially multi-drug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB. This book details various aspects of drug-resistant TB encompassing management, current status, treatment strategies as well as associated national and international programmes, etc. discussed under 27 chapters. The book covers the diagnosis and management of MDR and XDR TB both at the public health care facility as per the National TB Control Programme Guidelines and also individual case based management by the private providers. The authors’ own experiences in managing TB patients as experts in the field have also been incorporated at appropriate places for easy understanding. Of particular interest to readers is chapter 12, where MDR TB has been discussed with a case-based approach. Furthermore, chapter 15, where the current status of XDR TB is discussed, is of value as it gives a holistic view and updates the reader about the current status of XDR TB globally. In the same lines, tuberculosis control in India, the related framework, enrolment programmes, etc. are also discussed in chapter 25.
Overall, this is a well written and easily readable text book and is useful for students, experts and also private practitioners managing TB cases in their day to day practice.
