There are numerous books and papers on tuberculosis available in print as well as online. However, to sift through this huge volume of data and research papers is time consuming and difficult for a busy clinician or even a postgraduate trainee doctor. This book is an answer to their needs. With a long stint in research and teaching of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases, The author has been a witness to the advancement of knowledge in the field of tuberculosis, and in particular, the evolution of treatment regimens and newer diagnostics.
This book covers almost all the important topics in tuberculosis including; epidemiology, diagnostic tools and treatment regimens. Drug resistant TB management poses a major challenge to clinicians in India, and this book does full justice to this topic and provides clear treatment guidelines. It addresses thorny issues such as modification of the standard TB treatment regimens in cases of anti-TB drug related side effects. It also covers the treatment of the disease in the presence of co-morbidities like HIV, diabetes, kidney or liver disease. The approach to management of TB in pregnancy is covered well. It is refreshing to see a case based approach. The chapter on case discussions on MDR-TB management is a ‘must read’ for practicing clinicians.
